There's been a push even in rural races to get Dem candidates to talk more about abortion. This seems to based on a (wishful) new narrative that rural voters are predominantly pro-choice. Alas, no.

Yeah, that is bizarre. It feels like a ham-fisted, one-size-fits-all approach.

You actually got my curiosity going on this, so I looked for polling gauging how rural voters feel about abortion and of course discovered you all polled on this question in 2022! They were the lone geographic group in which a majority supported the Dobbs decision. (This was a good reminder for me to dig into the report some more soon!)

Also came across this one showing that when asked to list the top two most important issues "to you and your family," abortion came in 12th with just 7%. So I'm not sure on what basis anyone would be telling candidates in these areas to lean into it over any number of other issues. https://dailyyonder.com/can-rural-voters-be-swayed-at-the-ballot-box/
